Question:
Are you saying don't smoke anything once you've gotten them removed or just
right after they've been removed. My friend had his wisdom teeth removed and
said the doctor said he'd die if he's smoked pot within a week or so. He wrote
a note saying sorry to his mom if in fact he died. Then he smoked up right
after.
Answer:
I heard from a friend that if you smoke up and get your wisdom teeth out,
it's not good. I was wondering if this is true and how far in advance
before the surgery should I not smoke.
Sucking on straws, sucking on cigs, sucking on a bong AFTER, yes AFTER
you get your wisdom teeth out is a BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD
idea...don't do it...you will get dry rot and then you don't wanna go
through the added pain and hassle of having that taken care of...before
hand I'd say to minimize any effects of being knocked out don't do it
the day before you get those teeth pulled out.
Burndawg
WHo had all four impacted wisdom teeth yoinked at once...Ouch.
PS: Invest in a facial mask thingy that holds ice...
I could think of one problem: when I had mine out, the dental surgeon
put me *right*under*, with an IV anaesthesia. "Count backward from 100."
"OK. 100...99...98..." And then I woke up with 3 fewer teeth than I had
had before (the 4th isn't a problem). I would think that *any*
psychoactive drug (pot, alcohol, valium, whatever) would be *bad* with
that kind of medication.
Even if the dental surgeon uses a local, I'd still be worried about the
combination. (Have you considered talking to the dental surgeon about
this? Assuming doctor-patient confidentiality applies, it shouldn't be a
problem talking to him/her, and the doctor would probably know best.)
You also might want to be careful after they're out. I was prescribed
antibiotics, anti-swelling pills, and Tylenol 3s
(acitominophen/codeine). I had to lay off alcohol until I was off the
meds.
You wanna talk about teeth surgery? Had 7 teeth pulled, then I had 4
impacted eye teeth. So, they gave me some nitrous, about 20 shots of
Novacaine, and cut open my gums and mouth, found the teeth, attached small
chains to them, and each time I went to the orthodontist, they pulled on the
chains, to pull the teeth into place. then this summer, I found out I
needed to get my wisdom teeth out, so, all 4 pulled out at once. All except
one was still under the gums, I got it done early... since I was nervous
about it (the IV mostly, hate needles) they gave me nitrous before-hand,
then I woke up with 4 less teeth. I do remember him saying not to smoke
afterward, and I didn't actually have much swelling... He said it is
determined by the amount of work the mouth has already had, how used to
surgeries it is... Ahh, memories, 2 and a half years of braces, numerous
oral surgeries, all over most likely. My orthodontist always
said "this is a case for the books" and stuff about how complicated my teeth
were...
