Dental Dam ?

Question:

I've been trying to find a dental supplier in the UK who will sell me a pack of dental Rubber dam, but doesn't want me to a) prove I'm a dentist or b) spend 100GBP.

Answer: Will: You can obtain it in one of three ways: 1. Internet search for a supplier will bring up several sources 2. search ebay they sell it on there 3. Ask a lesbian they use it daily or go where they go to a sex shop

For 'Penna Coin' and similar effects requiring dental dam, I find a fine grade condom with the ends removed and cut down the side to make a rectangle works very well and is more durable... (They'll think you're either a 'big boy' or delusional at the chemist when you ask for the biggest ones they have though...)

I've used rubber gloves too. Not the "Playtex" ones, the cheap ones, like Doctors and foodservice people use. I always thought it would make a nice kicker ending for a coins across routine too but I never worked it out.

The minimum order here:

is $15.00 ($3.00 @ for 5 packs of non-flavored dam (plus $5 postage). Don't know if they ship to the UK though.

You can find it here for about $10 per box (price depends on the thickness you order).

A 4th way is to to cut a condom. You can find instructions for doing that here:

I just went to my dentist, said I was a magician and could he supply me with a box of dental dam; he added a box in his next order and called me a week later when it was delivered. The sheets were normal size and it cost me £7.

So if you have no luck finding an online supply just try your dentist.

I thought I might be able to help here -- I used to use dental dam to tie an artificial fly for fishing (a stonefly nymph, in case anyone cares). My dentist (since retired) was a good buddy and sold me a bunch at his cost. I checked, thinking I could just send some, I've misplaced one or more boxes of supplies as I can't find the stuff.

Anyway, you *used* to be able to buy small quanitites from fly-tying supply stores. It's also possible to make your own using a latex liquid (I did that some when I needed colored bodies). I don't recall for sure, but I think the latex I used was a molding compound. I spread it on glass, let it dry, dusted with talcum powder (important) and peeled it off.
