Question:
Dentist charge $200 for a special tray to hold a whitening agent.
Stores sell a strip to fasten to your teeth to apply a similar agent.
A box of the strips cost about $26.
So, what's the agent? Look at the ingredients.
The key ingredient is hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide is used by some for a mouth rinse.
You can get a similar teeth whitening affect by brushing your teeth
with hydrogen peroxide and it cost a lot less.
Answer:
Which tooth?
No I do not approve of whitening except in limited cases. A little tip
is to be aware of Sensodyne toothpaste for the "sensitivity problems."
the strips isnt so effective than tray systems. The strips have different
concentration and the strips doesnt have strict, precise contact with teeth.
and a lot of people is using strips without proffesional cleaning before
I just perused the new book on Caroline Kennedy. There are lots of
interesting photos of Jackie O. up close. I am sure today's dentistry
would convince her to Invisalign that crooked front tooth!
One of the good things about yard sales is interacting with strange
dogs. Today's dog was a German Shepherd tied up in the back of the yard
so he wouldn't slobber over the customers. When I talked to him he made
the most pitiful dog-sounds I've ever heard. "I'm all aloooooone,
nobody loves me, pleeeeeeease just let me die pleeeeeeeease come play
with me I'm all alooooone...." Oscar time.
Got a pruner for a quarter, a case of Kirkland Soymilk for $3, and a
mess of 50-cent T-shirts. Friend got some old movie serials on VHS and
a Harbor Freight dolly with pneumatic wheels. Depressing going to
estate sales. One of them had a really elaborate train set up in the
garage. Selling it would be like selling family photos.
What's curious is that I don't notice the color of other people's teeth
at all, unless they're all snaggled and the yellow-brown is just a
decorative touch. My mom remarks on the white teeth of all the
newsdroids, but it just doesn't seem all that noticeable.
The pictures on the left side of that page annoy me. I've seen them
used around the internet to show before/after effects of tooth
whitening. It makes me wonder what actual system was used....
Also, hasn't it been shown that the light does NOTHING to improve
whitening? It seems a bit like shady selling something that doesn't do
anything.
Boil and bite trays? I wonder how easy those are to make, and how much
of a seal they actually produce.
My understanding is that LED lights (previously claimed to whiten) had no
effect, but plasma ones did have a small but measurable effect. Also, in
conjunction with beaching agents, plasma speeded up the reaction.
Steve Weinberg (Den-Mat) came to see us in Qb-C once, and he said that
all he needed to do for in-office whitening was put some 2X2's in hot
water, heat up the theeth and then apply the whitening agent. This is
after the teeth are isolated, of course. Now.... what does that mean for
all this ZOOMing going on...
It seems that in independent tests, after a week, there is no difference in
whiteness.
However some combines chemical/light systems can achieve the same degree of
whitening - in a much shorter treatment time. This shortening of time is the
main driver of whitening light sales.
"However, LumaArch produced lightening similar to the other two systems
using about 60% less total contact time (24 minutes vs. 60 minutes) and Zoom
produced lightening similar to the other two systems using about one third
less H2O2 active ingredient (28% vs. 41- 42% H2O2 by weight). "
