Question:
Most of you are professional dentist so pls advice me on this. I badly
need your advice.
I am a programmer in NJ. I am inquiring for my sister who is foreign
dentist and planning to come to us to settle. Could anybody tell me how
much demand of dentist in NJ/NY or overall U.S.?? Is it easy to get job
like computers?? I am asking because if she comes here she has to
repeat two or three years of dental school. And this schools are really
expensive. I have inquired in NYU which charges $40000 for only tuition
other expenses are not included. So for three years it will be 120,000.
As foreign students are not qualified for any kind of federal
aid.Myself or she can not afford that much amount only option we have
to take loans with high interest. So is it worth while taking this much
loan for dentistry.? Because one has to pay the loan back six months
after graduation. so can you tell me is it a good market for dentist?
Can a person get well paid job in six months after passing dentistry or
it is difficult like medicine profession to get residency?
Answer:
2 years addititonal schooling - this is necessary to understand the US
dental insurance codes.
No, programming will not help in employment in the dental field.
Yes, its a rip-off, isn't it? Its worse than those MCSE courses that
promise you big bucks after you graduate but only cost $10,000. Of
course, you learn nothing, but that's besides the point.
Well paid job? Maybe, maybe not. First you have the dentists who want
to emploit employees. Can't be stopped. I'll bet your sister does it
too in ten years.
Then we have the dental insurance hemming us in. Pennsylvania Blue
Shield allows $43 for a filling. You have to watch your pennies
carefully to pay back $120,000.
