Question:
I am a graudate prosthdontic resident who will be doing a seminar on
Dental Laboratories: the training a technician needs, the determinants of
cost, and dentist-laboratory quality issues. Does anyone know of a good
source to contact who/where I could get this type of information?
Answer:
I would suggest joining the dental lab technology mailing list, this type of
question comes up all the time, and I know several representatives from
national organizations frequent the mailing list; info below:
Welcome to the Dental Lab Mailing List!
This list is for those who are involved in the dental lab industry,
be it as a dental technician, or a industry supplier. You can
use this mailing list to share experiences, exchange opinions,
as well as get and provide information. While selling of individual
lab equipment between labs is permissible, this list is not for
mass sales mailings from any lab or equipment manufacturer.
What a can of worms! I believe the info you seek will have to be gathered from
various sources. There are so many trains of thought on the subject.
For those who think classroom training is sufficient (generally 2 year
programs), try making use of a tech fresh out of school! I personally place
higher value on an apprenticeship.
Cost and quality issues are just as varied. There are lab/doctor relationships
that run the gamut. Everyone claims quality is job #1, but there are thousands
of docs in the field who support cut-rate labs.
I believe you are being a bit harsh. Watch out, because,
although I agree with you that all posters should PROOFREAD their posts
before posting, I was thoroughly attacked by some nasty posters who
cared neither for my corrections of their spelling, nor my comments on
the content of their messages.
P.S. I believe Dr. Marion is at the number one (or two) dental school in
the country. ... yes, it's even above my blessed Harvard ... :-(
