dental hygienist school in San Fransisco? ?

Question:

My sister-in law is going to stay in San Fransisco for a year with her husbond and is looking for education for dental hygienists in that area. We have only found it in Boston and thereabout so far, and would be grateful for information. We are also looking for which class of education would be possible or suitable for her. She has finished the Swedish three year dental hygienist program at the university and is interested in something to combine it with, she knows little about how the dental hygienist education in the United States works.

Answer:

Here are two contacts that may be useful to your sister-in-law. Because she has graduated from the Swiss program, there's a possibility that she could get credit for much of the work she has done. I believe the Swiss dental hygiene education is based on the US paradigm. When I was in dental hygiene school the Swiss actively recruited American hygienists to work in private dental offices. Hopefully she'll be able to design a program with a dental hygiene school that will allow her to complete her bachelor's degree while becoming eligible to sit for the California State Board.

Don't I know it Joel. I've had 4 dental hygiene licenses, still have 3. I still think maybe I shouldn't have let my Connecticut licese expire. You never know the perfect oppourtunity might arise.

As a dental hygienist trained in Sweden she will have no problem with the education in the US.

I think that Pat's suggestion (se below) sounds real great. Even if Pat made the classical American mistake of confusing Sweden with Switzerland.
