Dental Crowns ?

Question:

My dentist just quoted $2,925.00 to replace a crown. It was $800 when it was originally done a number of years ago. It seems to me that the price is extremely high, particularly knowing how little work is involved. No root canal, no nothing. Just a crown. What have others here paid?

Answer:

Things aren't quite as bad as I thought. It turns out that the quote is for 3 crowns plus some other undefined work. The billing secretary admitted she didn't know what the doctor ordered, so she included everything. It seems that the going price is $925, which is still too high.

That is probably about typical. It was 3 years ago our dentist went up to 800. I got in about a month before he decided and he said he would do the 3 for 750. The last one I got billed 800, but they corrected it when I pointed it out.

I had a root canal and crown done last year, but I can't recall exactly what it cost. My wife found that when she needed comparable work done, she could call a dentist's office and they'd be happy to quote her a price over the phone.

Also, was your original crown was partially paid for by dental insurance?

The one I had done several years cost me $400 out of pocket, but that was my portion after the insurance company paid theirs (out of network dentist).
