Question:
Is bleaching your teeth at the dentist safe? Will it work for those
people with naturally yellow enamel (ie) not really stained, but just
been yellow your whole damn life.
Anyone had it done that can give me their personal experience with it
and give me some advice?
Answer:
I have been involved with cosmetic dentistry for over 20 years, and with
"home bleaching" (dentist supplied and monitored) since the original
study was done at the University of North Carolina, and published in the
fall of 1989. It is my experience that this procedure is the safest,
most predictable and cost effective cosmetic procedure that I can offer
my patients. Continued research at UNC and other institutions has
confirmed my observations, and continued to confirm the safety of the
procedure. I can also speak from experience as a patient, having used
the UNC protocol to bleach my teeth in 1989. They went from shade A-4
(Vita Shade Guide) to A-1. With "touch-ups" every 8-12 months (6 hours
total over 2 days) I've maintained the A-1 shade for almost 9 years.
